group_bible_studyIf you are someone who attends a weekly group Bible study, you may agree that it’s a great way to connect with other Christians, and that is certainly true.  But everyone comes for another reason too; an interesting and uplifting Bible study.  As most Bible teachers soon discover, there as many ways to teach the lessons of the Bible as there are Bible study books. So how does one decide which method is right for them?

Whenever I’m asked to provide some insight about a group Bible study format, I like to direct people to NavPress.com.  This site is more than just another online Christian book store; it is a compendium of valuable information for every level of study.  Developing a group Bible study curriculum isn’t easy, and NavPress.com is well aware of that.  That’s why they offer so many insightful resources for studying the Bible.

According to a recent article I found on Daily Christian Advice (www.DailyChristianAdvice.com), entitled “Need New Ideas for Your Group Bible Study?  Consider These Formats,” there are some very specific methods which might dictate the nature of your Bible study, including the following:

Scripture memory – while not always the most popular method for groups of adults, younger people are happy to learn about methods like scripture memory.  Students of this format appreciate the ability to memorize scripture that can later be used in outreach and street witnessing initiatives.

Character study – By simply following a key Biblical character around the Bible, many lessons can be learned about God’ power to transform lives.  Most of the disciples that followed Jesus were just like you and me, but the Bible tells us how the Lord transformed their lives. Use a Bible, a notepad, and a concordance and dig into the life and times of your favorite Bible characters.

Inductive Bible Study – These interesting and insightful studies allow group Bible study leaders the flexibility to approach the Scriptures with confidence, using careful analysis of verses within each text and intelligent cross-references to similar passages in other parts of the Bible.

Thematic Bible study – Ideal for a group Bible study, these themed courses allow leaders to focus on couples, women, teens, singles or other specified groups. By appealing to the needs that are common to these groups, thematic studies reveal Biblical truths that encourage and uplift them in their daily lives.

Consult with NavPress.com to learn more about their excellent resources for your group Bible study.
