As Christians, our relationship with Jesus changes dramatically from the time we first make the decision to follow Him.  Pastors and Christian church ministry leadership are there to help new believers form the important foundations that lead to a deeper relationship with Christ, and this will often include recommending certain books.  One book that has the capacity to change a believer’s perspective on their Christian life has already inspired hundreds of ministry leaders.  It’s called Radical Together, and it was written by the pastor of the Church of Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL.

Radical Together is one of those books that could change your life, as it challenges you to obey the commands of Jesus to his followers.  As a culture, we have grown far too concerned about ourselves and our comfort.  Owning a new car and a nice house, taking exciting vacations, dressing well and sending our kids to the best colleges have all become far too important to the Church.  It’s not that we don’t give of our time, money and resources, but we are still incredibly distracted by the American Dream, and the sense of entitlement it brings.

Why is this book a must-read for Christian church ministry leadership?  All the challenges in this book can be taken on as individuals, but they will be far more effective when embraced as a congregation.  In a recent review for this book, “Radical Together Presents a Challenge to Christian Church Ministry Leadership,” it says that author David Platt is not saying anything new; but rather stirring God’s people to see their lives through the lens of Scripture and to take a personal responsibility for making “disciples of all nations.”

David Platt shares truths in this book that are convicting for Christians, particularly those who already consider themselves to be obedient.  It reveals how easy it is for us to slip back into conformity with the world around us and place our values on material gain, and how readily we abandon Jesus’ words and settle for a less obedient relationship with Him in pursuit of the world’s acceptance.  Many believers struggle with how to use the financial blessings they’ve been given by God and this includes Christian church ministry leadership.  They find this book so haunting because it reveals the condition of their hearts.  By turning away from the world’s temptation and following Jesus, Radical Together urges God’s people to live “all out’ for Jesus to make an impact on the world for His glory.
